Watch for a future edition of Introduction to Local Meat - The Whole Hog. Locals Frank Wright and Peggy Hanson led a stunning up-close workshop on the processing a half hog and the making of your own cured pork (charcuterie), including key tips on supplies, sources and recipes. Dinner of the Bluff - Chef Monique Jamet Hooker picked up where “The Whole Hog" class left off. "So funny! So wise!" The reviews of this culinary pioneer's down-to-earth advice on cooking with local meat were over the moon. Eagle Bluff's meal of locally produced, intelligently prepared foods was proof we in SE MN are fully capable of feeding ourselves well.
 
 
WELCOME, NEW MEMBERS!
QUARTER/quarter - Affordable, quality local food. That's what's on the menu at Steve Larson's new restaurant, QUARTER/quarter, which opened this month in Harmony. Steve aims to create a setting and a menu that draws customers back often - enjoy appetizer, main course and dessert for under $20 a person. Everything is made on site, including breads and sauces that bring a home-cooked meal to life. Signature sandwiches under $8. Soup, salads and desserts, all under $4. Lunch served in 60-seat main dining area, Thursday through Monday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Dinner menu features $4 appetizers portioned to mix, match, share. Entrees like Not Your Mother's Meatloaf or local Roast of My Own slow-cooked pot roast. Value-priced wines and beer in the wine bar, which seats 25  - open for drinks, appetizers and desserts Thursdays, Sundays and Mondays 4 - 9 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays 4 - 10 p.m. During the growing season, Steve's wife Lisa tends their 16,000-sq.-ft. garden which will be the source of much of QUARTER/quarter 's organic produce. - Kirsten Wyffels got into her jewelry "business" after attending the Junk Bonanza in Shakopee this past September. "I really didn't get started into the creating and designing until December and this has just exploded! I started making pendants and rings out of buttons but have expanded into using vintage jewelry or even both!" Kirsten's  jewelry makes unique gifts, for special occasions, or for spicing up an outfit.
