About Us

Dear Lanesboro Local Supporter,

Lanesboro Local has a new focus and your involvement is still needed! Please read on... do not miss the Web Page update at the bottom.

It has been a time of thoughtful pondering, as Lanesboro Local board members finished transitioning our Marketplace to the new privately owned grocery and gallery, Beste Byen and we began thinking about what should come next for Lanesboro Local.

We believe our mission is more important than ever: "to connect producers of food, goods and services with buyers, to strengthen our rural communities."

We are thrilled with what Beste Byen continues to offer to shoppers in the form of delicious local and natural foods, including many of the same brands we carried at the Lanesboro Local Marketplace. We encourage you to stop in and stock up. You can also visit their gallery and attend arts events. Stay informed at http://www.beste-byen.com, or "Like" them on Facebook. Beste Byen is continuing the goal of carrying products from local producers in their beautiful building, and we congratulate them on their success.

After careful consideration of options for the future of Lanesboro Local, we have selected a new focus. We want to help people learn about the unique bounty of this area by offering exciting classes and experiences for residents and visitors that will continue to support our mission.

To accomplish this, Lanesboro Local formed a partnership with Eagle Bluff to help build the new River Roots Skills School into a thriving regional center for adult education. Together, we will sponsor classes on a wide variety of topics relating to the area's local foods, crafts, culture, environment and arts. You may have heard about successful recent classes held earlier this year on cheese making, food drying, fermentation 101, and herbal teas. A Tomato FEST of classes will be held on September 13th. Amish Bread Baking classes are up and will be repeated often. Eagle Bluff is renowned for their gorgeous facilities and excellent organizational skills. Lanesboro Local brings close connections to local producers with amazing talents and teaching skills, as well as our marketing abilities. With support from the Southern MN Initiative Foundation, we hired Lori Slindee, a former board member, to carry out this work.

To make the most of our classes we ask your help. Please share topics you would like to explore, perhaps consider teaching a class and or sharing opportunities to experience the bounty of this area. Please email or write us with any ideas you would like to suggest.

Remember Lanesboro Local is a regional organization with members based through the region!
