News from Sustainable Dream Greenhouse

As part of the Root River Valley Earth Day Celebration, Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center and Sustainable Dream Greenhouses announce the winner of the Quest for Local Loot at the greenhouses: Gretchen Engstrom was the only participant able to correctly answer the Earth Day Founders question: Who, what, when, and where? As we all know, Gretchen's answer was: The original Earth Day was founded by Gaylord Nelson, April 1970, in Madison, WI. Congratulations to Gretchen! Her prize is, fittingly, a Rhubarb Garden Smorgasbord; three named varieties of Rhubarb for her extensive home vegetable/fruit garden. Congratulations Gretchen! Way to go!

Don't forget to stop by the Sustainable Dream Greenhouse's Dream Float at the Whalan Stand Still Parade. Sally will be offering many unique and hard to find varieties of annuals and perennials for sale that other area growers do not grow. Look for ALL the Lanesboro Lcoal members who participate in the Stand Still parade every year. See you there!

"I can help the beginner or the experienced gardener plan, plant, and care for their Minnesota vegetable, herb, and flower gardens," says Sustainable Dream Greenhouse owner, SallyJo Gehrke. "Whether you choose to plant annuals or perennials, I grow some of the very latest selections as well as those varieties your Grandmother trusted and loved. Together we can chose the plants that are right for you."

The greenhouse reopens Arbor Day with these early cold crop offerings:

  • Starts for broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, kohlrabi and pak choi.
  • Perennial herb starts including thyme, oregano, mint, chive and horseradish.
  • Other perennials plants available are asparagus, rhubarb, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, grape, and sunchoke, as well as an exciting selection of flowering perennials that are long blooming, hardy to our zone, and attract hummingbirds, butterflies and humming buttermoths.
  • As the weather permits, food crop plants such as tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, (including pumpkin on a stick), vine crops and annual herbs as well as the flowering annual bedding plants will be available.

Please allow plenty of time to look around and explore my greenhouse. There are many unique and hard to find, highly desirable garden plants that other area grower/greenhouses do not offer.

Sustainable Dream Greenhouse philosophy: use resources wisely. A natural, clean, green operation. Applies no growth regulators or fungicide insecticide herbicides. Collects, recycles, reuses pots, trays and containers, boxes, packaging, price tags, plant nametags and more.
